CA Firm Website: What to Include and What to Avoid
A CA firm website should state your services, the clients you serve, your partners’ qualifications and membership numbers, your office location, and how clients send documents. Keep every claim within ICAI’s current guidelines on advertisements and websites. GullySystem builds CA firm websites with a secure client document portal, so papers stop arriving by email and WhatsApp.
What Clients Want to See on a CA Firm Website
Most people reach a CA firm website after a referral or a Google Maps search, and they want to confirm three things quickly. Does this firm do the work I need, such as GST returns, income tax filing, audit, company incorporation or TDS? Do they handle clients like me, whether salaried, a trader, a startup or an NRI, and where is the office?
The site should answer these on the first screen. Partners’ names, qualifications and ICAI membership numbers belong on a team page. A phone number, a WhatsApp link and a map should be one tap away on a phone.
Stay Within ICAI Rules on Publicity
ICAI’s Code of Ethics sets out what a chartered accountant may say about their practice, including guidelines on advertisements and websites. The Council revised those guidelines in the 13th edition of the Code, which applies from 1 April 2026 and gives members more room than before. Read the current version on the ICAI website, and have a partner sign off on the final text.
Do not copy another firm’s site and assume it complies, because it may have been written under the older rules. A factual site is still the safest one. Check any superlative, client testimonial, fee offer or comparison with other firms against the current guidelines before it goes live.
Pages a CA Firm Website Needs
A small practice does not need many pages. It needs the right ones, written clearly.
- Home, with your services, the clients you serve and your office location.
- One page per service area, such as GST, income tax, audit and company law.
- Team, with each partner’s qualifications and membership number.
- Careers, since articleship candidates look for you here every season.
- Document checklists, such as papers needed for an income tax return, which help clients and bring search visits.
- Contact, with the office address, map, phone, WhatsApp and office hours.
Collect Client Documents Without Email Chaos
Clients send Form 16, bank statements, PAN and Aadhaar copies by email and WhatsApp, and they end up scattered across staff phones. A secure upload page or client portal, where each client sees only their own folder, keeps these in one place. Staff access can be limited to the clients they handle.
Keep the public contact form minimal. It should never ask for PAN, Aadhaar or bank details. If your practice management software already offers a client portal, link to it from the site rather than building another one.
Keep the Site Current Around Deadlines
Due dates change and extensions get announced, so avoid restating statutory deadlines in your own words. Link to the official income tax and GST portals instead, and use your site for guidance that stays true. Name one person in the firm who updates the site, and keep hosting, SSL and the Google Business Profile in the firm’s own name.
GullySystem builds websites and client document portals for professional firms, with access set by staff role. The free technology audit can also look at how your firm handles client documents today and where the risks sit.
CA firm website page plan
A page-by-page plan listing what each page should say, what to leave out under the publicity rules, and which pages need a partner’s sign-off. Use it as the brief for whoever builds your site.
Frequently asked questions
Can a CA firm advertise on its website?
Yes, within ICAI’s guidelines on advertisements and websites, which were revised in the 13th edition of the Code of Ethics from 1 April 2026. Factual information about your services and people is the safe core. Check anything more promotional against the current guidelines before you publish.
Should a CA firm website have a client login?
It helps once many clients send documents each season. A secure portal keeps PAN, bank statements and Form 16 out of email and WhatsApp. Smaller practices can link to the portal in their practice software.
What should a CA firm website not include?
Leave out anything you have not checked against ICAI’s current guidelines, such as claims of being the best, client testimonials, fee comparisons and client names used as marketing. Also keep the contact form free of fields for PAN, Aadhaar or bank details.
