Project Management Trainee

A year-long trainee programme leading to running small projects yourself. You will learn scope, estimation and the conversation where a client asks for one more thing, which is the conversation that decides whether a project is profitable.

What you will learn and do

• ✓Run the day to day of a small project: the plan, the standup, the blockers and the client update.
• ✓Break a requirement into tasks a developer can estimate without guessing.
• ✓Hold a scope conversation without damaging the relationship, which is a skill rather than a temperament.
• ✓Track effort against estimate, and learn where the estimate was wrong rather than who was slow.
• ✓Write the status a client trusts, including the parts that are going badly.
• ✓Prepare for go-live: the data migration, the training and the week after.

What we are looking for

• ✓A degree in any discipline, with evidence you can organise other people’s work.
• ✓Clear written and spoken English, and enough Kannada or Hindi to be easy with a client in Bengaluru.
• ✓Enough technical curiosity to follow a conversation about an API without pretending to understand it.
• ✓Calm under a deadline, because that is when this job is actually tested.
• ✓Willingness to deliver bad news early rather than hope it resolves itself.
