Questions for any vendor
Put these to every supplier you are comparing.
- How does a heat number stay with a part after machining?
- Can we hold different drawing revisions in one batch?
- Does it handle tower sections made of many cans?
- Can a customer’s witness visit be scheduled?
- Can we record subcontracted heat treatment?
- Are certificates and standards built in?
- What does the dossier contain?
- What does it cost?
Where the work usually breaks today
Circle the ones you recognise. They set the order of the project.
- Heat numbers drift away from finished parts
- Weld records sit in separate files
- Witnessed tests hold up the whole yard
- Drawing revisions change in the middle of a batch
- Coating thickness readings are kept apart from the part
