Fee Billing and Receipts for CA Firms

Fee bills are raised from the fees agreed and the work done, with GST added. Receipts are recorded against each bill, and a part payment leaves the balance visible.

From work done to a bill

Billing starts from the services and fees on the client master, and work done for a client becomes a fee bill with GST at the agreed rates. Bill numbering follows your office’s practice and is loaded at set-up. Partners and office staff can see what has been done for a client, and set that against what has already been billed to the same client.

Receipts and balances

Receipt against the bill

Each receipt is recorded against the bill it settles. The bill then shows what was received and what remains.

Part payments

A part payment leaves a visible balance. That balance can be traced back to the receipts.

UPI and bank transfers

Receipts by UPI or bank transfer are recorded from the transfer details, and how those records are brought into the system is agreed during scoping with your firm.

Overdue amounts

Bills that stay unpaid move to the recovery list, grouped by client and by age.

Who does what

Office and accounts staff raise fee bills, record receipts and work the recovery list, while partners see where fees stand across all clients. The partner’s view shows fees billed, received and outstanding, client by client, without a call to the accounts desk. Balances are always one click away.

Where the books stay

Accounting remains in Tally

Your books stay in Tally, while fee bills, receipts and outstandings are kept here against each client. An export can be agreed at set-up where retyping would otherwise be needed.

Tax treatment is the firm’s

GST on bills is applied at the rates the firm sets. How a particular fee is treated is a matter for the firm’s partners.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a bill carry GST?

Yes. Bills are raised from the agreed fees with GST at the rates your firm uses.

What happens when a client pays only part of a bill?

The receipt is recorded against that bill and the balance stays visible. The unpaid amount then follows the recovery list.

Can bills be raised for work that is not in the fee terms?

Yes. One-off work can be billed as an assignment, and the firm decides the amount.

Does it replace Tally?

No. The accounting book stays in Tally. This keeps the practice’s own billing and recovery position by client.
