Chit Ticket and Group Ledgers

A ledger can be opened for one subscriber’s ticket or for a whole group in any month. Both read from the same dues and payments, so the figures agree.

Two ways to open a ledger

Ticket ledger

This lists every due raised on the ticket and every payment applied to it, so a question about what has been paid is answered from one screen.

Group ledger

Pick the group and the month. The ledger then shows every ticket in that group with its net payable, what was received and what is still outstanding.

Where the figures come from

A ledger holds no figures of its own. Dues come from the instalments raised after each auction, with the dividend already deducted, and payments come from the receipts recorded at the counter or in the field. A change in either shows in the ledger.

Used at month close

Month close reads the group ledger. The office checks each ticket’s net payable against what was received, and tickets with a balance are the ones to chase. After the final auction the group is marked completed.

What a ledger does not do

The ledger covers the chit side only. Your books stay in Tally or whichever accounts package you use, and no Tally link is built in. An export can be scoped in the proposal. A member holding three tickets has three ticket ledgers.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a group ledger be opened for an earlier month?

Yes. The group ledger can be opened for any month, so a past instalment can be read as it stood.

Is there one ledger per member or per ticket?

Per ticket. A subscriber with tickets in three groups has three ledgers, because balances never cross between tickets.

Does the ledger replace our accounts?

No. It keeps the chit records. Accounting stays where it is today, and any export is agreed during scoping.

Where do outstanding amounts by group appear?

In the group ledger and in the group-wise expected, collected and outstanding report. Both read the same dues and payments.
