Requirements checklist

What to ask for when choosing software for radiology centres.

A checklist built from how radiology centres work, to print or save as a PDF and bring to any supplier meeting.

Share your requirements

What the software should cover

Tick each one that matters to your business.

  • Referral and order intake
  • Modality schedule by room
  • Preparation and contrast checklist
  • Reporting queue and radiologist sign-off
  • Image and report release
  • Reporting fees and referrer shares
  • Scanner service and contrast stock

Roles that need their own access

Who logs in, and what each person may see or change.

  • For the centre owner
  • For radiologists
  • For radiographers
  • At the front desk
  • For the referring doctor’s liaison

Reports to ask for

Ask to see each one with your own sample data.

  • Scans performed, split by modality and room
  • Unsigned reports, grouped by reader and urgency
  • Retakes counted per room, with the stated reason
  • Urgent finding calls to referrers, with time and caller
  • Reader fees earned from each signed study
  • Referring doctor shares still unpaid
  • Contrast packs and film running low

Systems it may need to connect to

Note which ones you already run.

  • Image viewer by accession number
  • Dictation or speech tools
  • WhatsApp
  • SMS
  • Email
  • Card and wallet payments
  • Accounting export

Questions for any vendor

Put these to every supplier you are comparing.

  • Is it for imaging only?
  • Can radiologists report from home?
  • How are repeat exposures recorded?
  • Does it store the images themselves?
  • Can a hospital or company be billed on credit?
  • How does the system handle critical findings?
  • Can radiologist fees differ by modality?
  • How do we bring in our current referrer list and rates?
  • Who owns the patient and study data?
  • What does a radiology centre pay?

Where the work usually breaks today

Circle the ones you recognise. They set the order of the project.

  • Each room keeps its own slot book
  • Preparation instructions go missing
  • Reporting queues are invisible
  • Repeat exposures leave no trace
  • Fees to radiologists and referrers are argued
