Audit Trail for Bank Reconciliation Matches
The audit trail records who matched an entry, who reversed a match and who wrote off an old difference. Reversals stay visible and are never deleted.
What the trail records
Who reads the trail
Auditors open any closed month and see the statement line, the matched entry, the exception and the person responsible. They can be given a read-only login. Every view and every export is logged. Accountants read the same trail when they review the unmatched list before sign-off.
Questions the trail answers
- Which statement line sits behind this entry?
- Was it matched by a rule or by a person?
- Who reversed this match, and when?
- Who wrote off this old difference?
- What reason was recorded against this credit?
What the trail does not do
It records actions and does not judge them. Whether a write-off was right is a decision for the accountant and the auditor. How long statement data and the trail are kept, and who holds a read-only login, is settled with the client at set-up.
Frequently asked questions
Can a reversal be hidden?
No. A reversal stays visible in the trail with the person and the date. The original match is kept alongside it.
Can an auditor review a closed month without changing it?
Yes. A read-only login opens the same record the team uses, and the auditor’s own views and exports are logged.
Are matches made by rules recorded as well?
Yes. The entry shows that a rule made the match, so it can be told apart from a match made by a person.
