Shift Scheduling for Interior Design Sites

Shift scheduling plans design and site shifts by week and assigns staff and contract labour to projects and sites. It keeps a record of who worked where, and on which day.

The week, written once

Shifts are planned site by site: who reports where, on which day and at what time. Sunday work, early starts and split shifts in a handover week go on the same sheet. Everyone reads one roster.

Planned, then recorded

The roster

Names against sites and days are set for the week and changed when a client moves a date.

The record

Who worked where, on which day. This sheet supports the contractor’s bill at month end.

Hours on the project

Time worked at a site books to that project, so its labour cost is entered as the work happens.

Gaps

A site with nobody rostered on a day when work was due is listed. It can be fixed before that day arrives.

Why studios need it

  • Society rules that allow work only between certain hours
  • A handover week where three trades want the same flat
  • Painters and polishers who come for a few days and leave
  • Supervisors covering more sites than there are days

A roster and not an attendance machine

There is no biometric device and no location check, and nothing proves that a person stood in the flat. Someone records who worked, and the record reflects the person entering it. For many studios that is adequate, because the supervisor already knows.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can contract labour be rostered along with staff?

Yes. Carpenters, painters and polishers who come for a few days sit on the same roster as salaried staff, and their days feed the project’s labour cost.

Does the supervisor get the week on a phone?

Yes. The supervisor opens the roster on his own phone and marks who turned up, in place of sending a WhatsApp message.

Can two shifts run at one site on the same day?

Yes. A morning civil team and an evening polishing crew are two entries against the same flat, counted separately.
