Role Views for Advocates and Law Office Staff
Partners, juniors, clerks and accounts staff each open the same matters and see the part they work on. Access to a matter is decided by the firm, down to a single advocate.
Who uses it
The system is used by litigation practices where juniors appear before several courts on the same morning. Two and three partner firms use it, as do advocates on bank and NBFC panels and corporate practices that bill on time spent. Everyone reads from one record per matter. The first screen differs.
What each role sees
Who may see a matter
Matters can be made visible only to the advocates and staff the firm names. This matters when partners act on opposing sides, and a conflict needs one advocate to see a file and nobody else. The conflict search reads the firm’s own records, before a brief is accepted. Accepting a brief stays with the advocate.
What the firm sets
Roles, matter visibility and the client view are set up with the firm before go-live. The clerk is trained first on a real week of listings, and juniors need about an afternoon. What a client sees is limited to what the firm chooses to show. Papers are sent separately.
Frequently asked questions
Can a partner see only some matters?
Yes. Visibility is set matter by matter, so a partner can be kept out of a file where the firm decides it is needed.
Do clients log in to the system?
Only where the firm switches that on. The client sees their own matters and nothing belonging to another client.
Can the clerk see fee bills?
That depends on the role the firm gives the clerk. Role access is agreed during implementation.
Is a separate login needed for each junior?
Yes. Each person has their own login, so every entry carries the name of whoever made it.
