Work Allocation for Juniors and Clerks
Drafting, research, appearance and filing are assigned to juniors and clerks, each with a due date. The senior reads what is pending and with whom, without asking each person in turn.
Four kinds of work
What the senior reads
Each assignment carries the work, the person and the due date. The senior opens one list and sees what is pending with each junior and each clerk, in the order of the dates by which it is wanted. A conversation can start from the list. Nobody has to ask around.
Beside the other records
What the firm decides
The kinds of work, who may assign them and how often the list is reviewed are decided with the firm before the module goes live. The module records who was given what and by when. It does not judge the quality of the work. It does not decide who should do it. That stays with the senior.
Frequently asked questions
Can a clerk see work given to the juniors?
Only if the firm allows it. Visibility follows the role, and matters can be limited to the advocates and staff who are named on them.
Is a task tied to a matter?
Where the work belongs to a matter, it can be recorded on it. How tasks and matters are linked is agreed during implementation.
Does a due date send a reminder?
Limitation dates, appeal periods and reply deadlines are reminders of their own, with a lead time set per kind. How due dates on assigned work surface is agreed during scoping.
Can one person assign work to another firm’s advocate?
No. Work is assigned to the juniors and clerks who have a login in your own office.
