Frequently asked questions
Do we need a formal architecture review, or can a hosting provider just set servers up?
It depends on what the application does. A provider can rack up servers quickly, but only a review connects that layout to your actual peak usage, your recovery needs and your budget. If the application is internal and low-stakes, a quick provider setup may be enough; if it takes orders, holds records or serves paying customers, the reasoning behind the layout matters as much as the layout itself.
What decides the cost of an architecture review?
The number of systems in scope and how much is already known. A single application with clear usage numbers is a short exercise; a business running several systems with no existing documentation, or one where stakeholders still need to agree on peak load and recovery targets, takes longer to review properly.
How long does a review take?
Mostly it depends on how quickly the people who know your peak usage, budget ceiling and growth plans are available to confirm those numbers. The review itself moves fast once that input is in hand; waiting on it is usually what stretches a timeline.
We already have servers running. Can you design around what exists?
Yes. We review the current setup first, note what should be kept, and propose a target architecture that gets you from where you are to where you need to be, rather than starting from a blank page.
Who owns the resulting diagram and design document?
You do. The architecture document, diagram and sizing rationale are yours to keep, share with another vendor, or hand to a developer joining your team later.
What do you need from us to start?
A list of the systems in scope, your busiest-hour usage numbers if you have them, any data you must retain for a fixed period, and a budget ceiling. Where you do not have peak numbers, we help you estimate them.
Does an architecture review include building the infrastructure?
No. A review produces the design and the reasoning behind it. Building the environment, migrating data or deploying the application are separate pieces of work, priced against the architecture once you approve it.
