Do we need managed cloud infrastructure, or is our current hosting fine?
It depends on what an outage costs you and who fixes it today. If your application only serves internal users occasionally, or you are on a managed platform where the vendor already handles servers, backups and updates, your current arrangement is probably enough. This service is for businesses where the application takes orders, issues invoices, holds patient or student records, or serves paying customers — and where nobody is currently watching, patching or testing recovery. If we look at your setup and find it adequate, we will tell you what to fix and leave it there.
Which cloud provider is right for us?
It is decided by your workload, your existing licences and your team, not by our preference. AWS, Azure and Google Cloud offer the widest managed services and multi-region options and suit larger or regulated workloads; DigitalOcean and similar providers are simpler and often cheaper for a single application with predictable load. Existing Microsoft licensing, a requirement to keep data in an Indian region, a specific managed database, or credits you already hold can all decide it. We recommend one during assessment with the reasoning written down, and we build to it in your account.
Can you move our application to the cloud without a long shutdown?
Yes, in most cases, because the move is rehearsed before it happens. We build the new environment, copy your data into it, run both side by side, and rehearse the cut-over with your team on a copy first. The switch itself is planned into your quietest window, with a rollback point agreed in advance so a problem means going back rather than working through the night. The length of the window depends on database size, how much data changes during the copy, whether the application can run read-only for a period, and DNS propagation — all of which we measure during the rehearsal and tell you before you commit to a date.
Are the backups actually tested, or only configured?
They are restored, timed and recorded on a schedule. Configuring a backup is the easy half; the half that matters is proving the copy can be brought back into a working system. We restore into an isolated environment, check that the data is complete and the application runs against it, note how long the restore took, and keep that record. That drill is also how we establish, in plain numbers, how much data and how much working time a real failure would cost you.
What does managed hosting include, and what is outside it?
It covers the environment your application runs on, not the application itself. Included: monitoring and alerting, operating system and database patching, capacity and scaling, backups and restore drills, certificate and DNS management, security baseline maintenance, incident response, and a monthly report on uptime, changes and spend. Outside it: new features, bugs in your application code, and design changes — those are development work, whether done by your team, your existing vendor or by us under a separate arrangement. We put the boundary in writing so that during an incident nobody is arguing about whose job it is.
Who responds when something breaks at night?
A named person, following a written runbook, under a response arrangement you agreed when you signed up. Alerts route to whoever is on duty with the affected system, the symptom and the first steps attached. Which hours are covered, how quickly someone responds, and which failures justify waking a person up are all set with you in advance — a stopped payment flow and a slow report page do not deserve the same treatment. You also receive the escalation path, so your own team knows who to reach and when.
How is security handled at the infrastructure level?
By reducing what is exposed and controlling who can reach it. Databases sit on private networks, administrative ports are closed to the public internet, remote access goes through a controlled route, accounts are named and least-privilege with multi-factor authentication on the cloud console, secrets are stored outside the code and can be rotated, and operating system and database patches are applied in agreed windows. Access and audit logs are retained. This is the infrastructure layer; vulnerabilities inside your application code, penetration testing and secure development practices are a different discipline, and we will tell you plainly when that is what you actually need.
Will our cloud bill come down?
Often it does, but we will not promise a figure before seeing your account. What we can promise is that every resource gets tagged to a purpose and reported, so the bill becomes readable. The usual savings come from oversized instances running at a fraction of their capacity, test and staging environments left running around the clock, old snapshots and unattached storage volumes, data transfer patterns nobody examined, and steady workloads paying on-demand rates when committed-use pricing would fit. Some businesses instead find they are under-provisioned and should spend a little more — we report what we find either way.
What drives the cost of this work?
Two separate things: our work, and the cloud bill itself, and we keep them distinct in every proposal. Our effort is driven by how many systems and environments are in scope, whether we are building fresh or untangling an undocumented setup, whether data must be migrated and how clean it is, how strict your recovery targets are (a standby region costs far more to build and run than nightly backups), how much of the environment must be automated in scripts, and whether you want monitoring only or full monthly operations. The cloud spend is driven by your traffic, data volume, retention period and redundancy level. Assessment gives you an itemised proposal with the recurring cloud estimate shown separately.
What decides how long it takes?
Access, data volume and how much rehearsal you want, more than the building itself. The main factors are how quickly cloud, domain and vendor accounts are opened in your name, how large the database and file store are and how long a copy takes, whether the application needs changes to run in a new environment, how many people must verify their screens and reports before cut-over, how long you want to run both environments in parallel, and which maintenance windows your business can actually offer. We give you a schedule tied to those inputs after discovery, and we would rather extend a rehearsal than rush a cut-over.
Do we own the cloud account, the configuration and the scripts?
Yes, all three. The cloud account, domain and certificates are registered to your business, billed to you, with our access granted as a scoped role you can revoke at any time. The infrastructure scripts, configuration files, monitoring definitions and runbooks are delivered into your own repository as source code you own outright. Nothing is licensed back to you, nothing runs inside a GullySystem account, and nothing about the arrangement depends on us staying involved.
What do you need from us, and will you train our team?
We need four things, and yes, training and a runbook are part of every handover.
