Saturday, the Collection List Opens

Saturday is the day this trade gets paid. A man sits with the phone and a list. The quality of that list decides whether it is a good Saturday or another month of chasing.

Shouting a question across the counter

Somebody rings to ask what a contractor owes. The answer involves a register, a Tally screen, and a shout across the room to the person who took a cheque last Tuesday. By the time the figure is agreed, the contractor has hung up and the moment to ask for money has gone.

What the list gives you

Oldest bills first

Sorted by age, by contractor and by site. The calls that matter are at the top, where somebody will actually reach them.

Receipts as they come in

Cash, cheque, UPI and bank transfer, entered against the bills they pay. The balance moves while the man is still on the phone.

Post-dated cheques held

A cheque taken today for the fifteenth is recorded with its due date, and a reminder comes before it. Nothing sits unbanked in a drawer.

Cheques that bounce

Marked as returned, and the bill goes back to outstanding. The contractor’s account tells that story the next time he orders.

Who collected what

Each receipt carries the person who took it. Money collected at a site is on the record that evening.

The conversation it makes possible

You can ring a contractor about one site and three bills, instead of one large number he will dispute. That is a shorter call. It is also a better one.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does it send payment reminders to contractors?

A message with the outstanding can be sent on WhatsApp from the account. In this trade the call still does most of the work, and the list is there to make the call short.

Can we take payment by UPI against a bill?

The receipt is recorded against the bill with its reference, however the money arrived. Collecting through a payment link is scoped separately if you want that.

Will it chase the money for us?

No. Somebody in your office still has to pick up the phone on Saturday morning. What changes is that he knows exactly who to ring, for which site, and for how much.
