The Rate Carries the Date It Starts From
Cement moved on Monday. TMT moved on Wednesday, twice. A yard that sells at yesterday’s figure is not being generous, it is simply losing two rupees a kilo without anybody deciding to.
The quotation said one thing, the market said another
A quote went out on the first of the month. The order came in on the twentieth, and the counter billed it at the quoted rate because that is what the paper said. Nobody checked what the material had cost you in between, and the difference stayed with the yard.
How rates are kept
A rate and a start date
Each item carries the figure and the day it applies from. Raising a bill picks the rate that was live on that day.
Your items, as the yard says them
Cement by brand and grade, steel by diameter, M-sand and aggregate by load. Nobody has to translate a code at the counter.
Old bills keep old rates
A new rate entered today does not reach backwards. What was billed stands.
A quote shows its list
Every quotation says which rate list it was built from. When the contractor waves an old paper, the answer is already on the screen.
Expired rates cannot slip through
A rate that has been replaced is not available to bill against. The clerk is not deciding this on the spot.
Set against what it cost you
Company and depot purchases are recorded with freight and unloading added in, so the selling rate is set against the landed cost rather than against a guess.
- Rate history for cement, steel and aggregate
- Purchases with freight and unloading, by supplier
- Quotations and the list each was built from
- Your current rates loaded before the first order
Frequently asked questions
Can one contractor have his own rate?
There is no separate rate list per contractor in this product. A rate agreed with a regular buyer is written on his quotation or his order and stays on that record. Most yards want the dated list plus the odd agreed exception, and that is what this gives them.
Does it follow the steel market on its own?
No. Somebody in your office enters the new figure. There is no market feed in this product, because the rate a yard sells at is a decision, not a quotation from a website.
What happens to an order booked before a rate change?
It keeps the rate that was live when it was booked, unless you change it and record why. That is usually the honest answer to give the contractor too.
