Three crews go out on the same Sunday. One assistant was told six in the morning by one person and eight by another, and the drone operator was never told at all.
A function, not a whole wedding
Crew is assigned per function. The candid shooter on the reception is not always the one on the mehndi, and the call times are hours apart. Putting a whole crew on a whole wedding is how somebody ends up missing.
What an assignment carries
The role, named
Lead photographer, candid shooter, cinematographer, drone operator, assistant. Everybody knows what they are there to do.
Call time and venue
The time he is expected and the place he is going, which on a wedding weekend is obvious to nobody.
Already booked, flagged
Somebody out on another shoot that day cannot quietly be put on a second one. The clash shows while you can still fix it.
Freelancer rates
Hired crew go on at the rate agreed for that shoot, and that figure feeds what they are later owed.
What the crew lead opens on the day
He is standing outside a mantapa before sunrise. Keep it short.

- The cards handed in, recorded before he leaves
- Who else from the studio is on the same function
- All of it in the phone browser, nothing installed
Frequently asked questions
Can somebody be assigned to two functions in a day?
Yes, when the timings genuinely allow it. The clash is flagged and you go ahead knowingly. A haldi at ten and a reception at seven is two assignments, not a problem.
Does it tell the crew?
The assignment is visible to them, and a message goes out from your studio number on WhatsApp, drafted and ready. Somebody at the studio still reads it before sending.
What about a crew member who cancels on the morning?
You reassign, and the new name carries the call time and the rate. What software cannot do is find you a cinematographer at seven on a Sunday morning.
