Scalable Management Tools for SHGs

The same screens serve a group of twenty members and a group of two hundred. Coordinators supporting several groups open the same records and statements for each one.

As the group grows

One set of screens is used at every size.

More members, same records

New members join the existing group, and the savings and loan history of members already there is left as it was.

Meetings stay quick

Marking attendance and entering savings follow the same steps, whether the list has twenty names or two hundred. Nothing changes.

Totals kept current

Group savings, loans outstanding and overdue amounts are updated from each entry, whatever the size of the group.

More than one group to support

An NGO often supports many groups.

A coordinator’s view

Each group’s members, savings and statements can be opened by the coordinator under her own login, so she never borrows the treasurer’s access to see them.

Reports group by group

Cash flow, profit and loss and the balance sheet are produced separately for every group.

Exports that combine

Excel exports put several groups in one sheet when a funder asks for it.

Where the limits are

These limits are stated before any commitment.

Not a lending platform

A lender with thousands of individual borrowers needs a different product, and the Loan Management System is closer to that need. Scope is reviewed at the start.

Discipline stays with the group

The software holds the numbers. Attendance and repayment still rest on the members.

Paper may still be enough

A small group with a careful treasurer and a clean passbook may not need software yet.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do the tools slow down as the group grows?

No. The same screens are used for two hundred members. What grows is the counting in the room, and the recording steps stay the same.

Can one login manage several SHGs?

Yes. A coordinator can be assigned the groups she supports and read each group’s members, savings and statements. Each group’s data stays separate.

What if we raise the savings amount for everybody?

Change the savings plan for the group, and contributions from that cycle follow the new figure. Earlier months stay at the old amount, which the comparison reports use.
