Monitoring

Uptime checks, error tracking and alerting set up around your application, so a failure is reported by a notification your team is watching instead of by a customer who noticed first.

What Monitoring Covers

Monitoring watches an application that is already running; it does not fix anything by itself. Its job is to make sure that when something does go wrong, someone finds out immediately instead of days later.

What Gets Watched

  • Whether the application is reachable and responding at all
  • Error rates and unhandled exceptions inside the application itself
  • Scheduled jobs and background tasks that should run but silently stop
  • Certificate expiry dates on domains and integrations
  • Disk space and server resource usage trending toward a limit

Getting Alerts to the Right Place

One Channel, Not Several

Alerts land somewhere your team actually watches, such as a shared channel, rather than an inbox that fills up and gets ignored.

Severity Reflected in the Alert

A complete outage is distinguished from a single failed background job, so urgent issues are not buried among minor ones.

No Duplicate Noise

The same underlying issue is not reported repeatedly as separate alerts, which trains a team to start ignoring them.

From Alert to Action

An alert on its own is only useful if someone is responsible for acting on it. We set up monitoring as part of a maintenance or support arrangement wherever possible, so an alert leads to a person actually looking at the issue rather than sitting unread.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between monitoring and maintenance?

Monitoring watches for problems and raises alerts; maintenance is the work of fixing what those alerts point to. Monitoring is often the first thing we set up because it shows what actually needs attention.

What decides which checks are set up for our application?

What the application does and what would hurt the business most if it stopped: an e-commerce checkout, a payment integration and a background report job all need different checks.

What decides the cost of monitoring?

The number of services being watched and how the alerting is set up, such as a shared team channel versus a more involved on-call routing.

Do you need access to install monitoring tools on our servers?

Yes, enough access to install lightweight monitoring agents or connect an external check, without needing broader control over the application.

Who receives the alerts, us or you?

Both, by default. Your team sees what we see, so monitoring does not depend on us being the only ones aware an issue exists.

Can monitoring be added without a maintenance contract?

Yes. Monitoring can run on its own, though many businesses add it precisely because they want a defined way to have what it flags actually fixed.

What do you need from us to configure monitoring?

Access to the application and hosting, and a short list of the workflows or jobs that would cause real damage if they failed unnoticed.
