An Independent Opinion on One Technology Decision
Technology consulting is a scoped engagement for a single question - a vendor quote, a stalled build, a choice between two tools - answered in writing by someone not selling you the answer.
What Technology Consulting Covers
This is the entry point when you have one technical question, not a company-wide plan. We scope the question, examine the evidence behind it - a quote, a codebase, a contract, a spreadsheet of options - and hand you a written opinion you can act on or contest. Nothing is recommended before we understand what you are actually deciding.
Where a Single Opinion Fits
A Quote You Cannot Judge Alone
One vendor has sent a proposal and you have nobody technical to check whether the price matches the work described or where the gaps are.
A Build That Has Gone Quiet
A developer or agency has stopped responding on schedule and you need a plain read on whether the delay is normal or a warning sign, before deciding to press on or step in.
A Recurring Question With No Technical Owner
The same kind of decision - which tool to add, which integration to approve - keeps landing on a desk with nobody qualified to weigh it, and each one currently gets decided by instinct.
A Choice Between Two Options, Not Twenty
You already have the field narrowed to two paths and need someone to pressure-test the comparison rather than run a full options study from scratch.
What Shapes the Scope and the Fee
- How many people need to be interviewed before we can form a view
- Whether the material already exists in writing (a quote, a contract, a codebase) or has to be reconstructed from memory
- Whether a site visit or live demo is needed, or the review can be done from documents shared remotely
- How many separate questions are bundled into the one request
- Whether the answer has to be defensible to a partner, bank or board, which changes how much is written down
What We Need From You to Start
- The specific decision you are trying to make, in one sentence
- Whatever documents already exist - quotes, contracts, screenshots, an existing system to look at
- A named person who can answer follow-up questions within the engagement window
- Your real constraint - budget, a date, a person who has to be convinced - so the opinion is useful and not theoretical
When to Look at a Different Engagement Instead
A single consulting question is the wrong fit when the request is actually several decisions wearing one name. If you need a full requirement document written for a vendor, that is BRD and PRD preparation. If several departments have to move onto new systems together, that is digital transformation consulting. If you want someone in the room for every technology decision going forward rather than one at a time, that is a fractional CTO arrangement. We will tell you which one your situation actually needs on the first call, even if it is not this one.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as the full technology strategy engagement?
No. The full engagement covers discovery, requirement documents, architecture and a phased roadmap together. Technology consulting is one question, scoped narrowly, answered on its own - useful when you do not yet need, or cannot yet justify, the larger piece of work.
What decides how long a consulting engagement takes?
How quickly the material needed to form a view becomes available. If the quotes, contracts or system access are ready at the start, the review moves as fast as the question is narrow. If we have to chase documents or wait on interviews, that waiting is the main delay, not the analysis itself.
Do I need a fully written-out question before I contact you?
No. A rough description of the decision is enough for a first conversation. Part of the first call is narrowing a vague worry into a question that can actually be answered, and telling you honestly if it needs a bigger engagement than this one.
Will the advice always point toward hiring GullySystem to build something?
No. A consulting opinion can conclude that your existing vendor is right, that the cheaper option is the safer one, or that nothing should be built yet. The opinion is paid for on its own and does not depend on a build following it.
What if the opinion turns out to be bad news about a project already under way?
We still write it as found. If a build is behind, over-scoped or heading toward a dead end, the opinion says so along with what a recovery would realistically take, rather than softening the finding to keep a client comfortable.
Who owns the written opinion at the end?
You do. The document is yours to keep, share with your partners or investors, or hand to the vendor being discussed. Nothing about the engagement obliges you to act on it through us.
Can this stretch to cover more than one question if I think of another midway through?
Yes, but it changes the scope and the fee, and we say so before continuing rather than absorbing it silently. If the second question is unrelated to the first, it is usually cleaner to scope it as its own piece of work.
