Software Solutions for Art Paint Sellers

Artist paints come in dozens of shades across acrylic, oil, watercolour and gouache, in student and professional grades and in many tube sizes. Sellers need shade charts that read honestly, grade-based pricing, open stock beside sets and shipping rules for solvents and sprays.

At a glance

Show every shade, grade and tube size, and ship paints that carriers will actually take.

A tube of cadmium red and a tube of student red can sit side by side on a shelf and differ greatly in price. The buyer needs to see why.

Online, colour is the hardest thing to show truthfully.

Businesses and operating models

Specialist art shops

A shop stocks several paint brands and grades and sells to hobbyists, students and working artists.

Brand and distributor sellers

A distributor lists a brand’s whole range and supplies retailers and art colleges at trade rates.

Kit and set sellers

A seller assembles starter sets and themed palettes and sells them as one item.

How an order moves

The workflow for paints.

  1. 1

    Listing by medium and grade

Each paint is listed by medium, grade, shade name, pigment code and tube size. Search narrows by any of them.

  2. 2

    Showing the shade

A swatch or painted-out chart sits beside the photograph, with a note that screens vary.

  3. 3

    Selling singles and sets

A shade is sold as open stock, and the same shade also belongs to sets that carry a separate price and stock.

  4. 4

    Applying carrier rules

Solvent-based paints, mediums and sprays are flagged, and routes that cannot carry them are blocked at checkout.

  5. 5

    Handling batch and returns

Where a maker uses batch numbers, the batch goes on the order. Opened tubes follow your return rule.

Where it breaks

The challenges, and what they cost.

Shade mismatch

A screen shows a colour differently from the tube, and the buyer returns it as wrong.

Grade confusion

Student and artist grades share names. A buyer pays for one and expects the other.

Restricted goods

Solvents and spray paints are refused by many carriers, and a parcel is held mid-route.

Sets break open stock

A shade is counted twice, once as a tube and once inside a set, and the stock figure drifts.

Requirements to assess

What is specific to this trade.

These are requirements we would confirm in discovery. They describe what the solution may need to handle. They are not features that already exist.

  • Medium, grade and pigment fields searchable by buyers
  • Sets that draw down their tubes’ stock
  • Flags that stop restricted items on routes that cannot take them
  • Swatches that sit with the photograph
Recommended modules

What we would build for paints.

Chosen from the commerce capabilities this business needs, not a list of everything.

Shade and pigment fields

Hold medium, grade, shade name, pigment code and permanence rating as fields.

Swatch display

Attach a painted swatch to each shade.

Set composition

Define a set from tubes, so selling a set reduces each tube’s stock.

Restricted-goods flags

Mark items that need special carriage and filter routes.

Batch capture

Record the batch against the order where one exists.

Users and permissions

Who works in the system, and what each can do.

Catalogue editor

Enters shade, grade and pigment data and uploads swatches.

Order desk

Checks restricted-item routes and handles shade complaints.

Stock keeper

Counts tubes and builds sets, recording batch numbers.

Integrations

What it would connect to.

An integration is confirmed only after its API, access and scope are checked. A connection that updates on a schedule is described as scheduled, not real-time.

  • Counter software that already tracks your stock, linked through a file it can export
  • Checkout through a payment partner whose fees and payout timing you have reviewed
  • Pincode serviceability checks against the carriers you actually use
  • Journal entries for sales, refunds and gateway fees, exported in your chart of accounts
Implementation

How the work runs, and what we need from you.

What you provide

  • Your paint list by medium, grade and tube size
  • The sets you sell and their contents
  • What your carriers refuse to take

Settle the data first

Medium, grade and shade names are agreed, since search and swatches depend on them.

Build the sets

Sets are linked to their tubes and tested against stock counts.

Deliverables

What you receive.

  • A paint catalogue with shade and grade fields
  • Set composition rules
  • Restricted-goods and routing rules
  • Swatch guidance for photographers
Measurement

How progress is judged.

Measures are agreed against your own baseline. We do not promise a result in advance.

  • Returns raised for shade mismatch
  • Parcels held for restricted contents
  • Stock drift between tubes and sets
India and international

Selling at home and abroad.

Paint formulations, solvent content and labelling rules differ between countries. Your adviser sets what each market needs, and the catalogue shows it as you specify. Shipping of solvents and sprays is limited by carrier and country.

Configured implementation

The store and its order flows are assembled around your catalogue and shipping rules, using whichever platform discovery recommends. No GullySystem product is named, and the written proposal fixes the scope.

Shade, grade and set data are handled by the category catalogue, with restricted-goods flags added to its shipping rules.

Common questions

Questions about paints e-commerce.

Can the site show an exact colour?

No. A screen can only approximate a paint. We show a painted swatch and say so, and the buyer can order a small tube to test.

Will it block spray paint on routes that refuse it?

It can, once you tell us what each carrier accepts. The rules are yours to supply, and we check them route by route.

Can a set be sold when one tube is out?

Only if you decide to allow a substitute. By default a set is unavailable when any of its tubes is.
