Software Solutions for Comic Sellers

Comic sellers deal in issues, series, variant covers and collectable single copies. Customers subscribe to titles, pre-order releases and hunt for back issues in a stated condition. Sellers online need release-day allocation, standing orders and one-of-a-kind stock records.

At a glance

Run pull lists, variant covers and back issues from one stock record.

A comic is a monthly object with a long tail. New issues arrive on a schedule, regular readers expect a copy held for them, and old issues are single copies priced by condition.

Businesses and operating models

Comic shops adding online sales

A shop lists new releases and back issues and keeps customer pull lists for regular buyers.

Collectables sellers

A seller trades in graded and rare issues, where each copy is unique.

Subscription and box sellers

A seller sends monthly boxes of selected titles and trade paperbacks.

How an order moves

The workflow for comics.

  1. 1

    Taking standing orders

A customer subscribes to a title or a creator. Each new issue is held for them on release.

  2. 2

    Allocating new releases

Incoming copies are allocated to pull lists in order. Spare copies go on sale after the lists are filled.

  3. 3

    Selling variant covers

Each cover is its own item, with its own price, ratio or limit, and its own stock.

  4. 4

    Listing a back issue

A single copy is listed with condition notes and photographs. It leaves the catalogue when it sells.

  5. 5

    Packing and shipping

Issues ship in backing boards and rigid mailers, and a customer’s pull list ships together on a chosen day.

Where it breaks

The challenges, and what they cost.

Pull lists in a notebook

Customers’ standing orders are kept by hand. A copy is sold across the counter that was held for someone.

Variants confused

Cover A and Cover B look similar, and the wrong one ships. Collectors notice.

Unique copies sold twice

A single back issue is listed on the website and in the shop. Two buyers pay.

Condition disputes

A buyer says an issue was in better condition than it arrived. Without photographs, nothing proves it.

Requirements to assess

What is specific to this trade.

These are requirements we would confirm in discovery. They describe what the solution may need to handle. They are not features that already exist.

  • Pull lists that allocate incoming copies in order
  • Each variant cover held as its own item
  • Unique copies listed with condition notes and photographs

Integrations

What it would connect to.

An integration is confirmed only after its API, access and scope are checked. A connection that updates on a schedule is described as scheduled, not real-time.

  • Distributor orders and invoices, imported where the supplier provides a file
  • Shop billing and stock figures, read where the existing software offers an export
  • Payment gateways, with repeat billing for subscription boxes where supported
Implementation

How the work runs, and what we need from you.

What you provide

  • Your pull-list customers and their titles
  • How you describe condition on back issues
  • Your distributor ordering cycle

Move the pull lists

Standing orders are brought in from your notebook or sheet and checked with customers.

Photograph the singles

A first batch of single copies is photographed to a standard for listings.

Deliverables

What you receive.

  • Pull list and allocation flow
  • Variant and single-copy listings
  • Release-day shipping
Measurement

How progress is judged.

Measures are agreed against your own baseline. We do not promise a result in advance.

  • Pull-list copies allocated on release day
  • Single copies sold more than once
India and international

Selling at home and abroad.

Release dates, cover prices and editions vary between countries, and some variants are sold only in one market. Sellers shipping abroad confirm duties and carrier terms for graded items.

The wider requirements for books are on the Books page.

Suitable software

Comic Shop E-commerce & Pull List Software

Custom software solution

No existing GullySystem product manages pull lists, variant covers and unique single copies together, so it would be written for the shop. It would read the shop’s billing records where possible.

Common questions

Questions about comics e-commerce.

Can a copy be held for a customer?

Yes. A pull list holds a copy of each new issue for a subscribed customer, which is allocated before spare copies go on sale.

Does the site grade my comics?

No. It records the grade and condition notes you assign, and shows your photographs. Grading is a judgement made by a person or a grading service.

Is there a ready-made comic shop product?

No. The software would be made for the shop. No existing GullySystem product does this.
