Inventory Management for Veterinary Clinics
One stock register covers vaccines, medicines and consumables, with expiry dates and reorder levels per item. Two short lists show what expires soon and what sits below its reorder level.
Stock with expiry dates
Expiring and low-stock lists
The two lists are expiring soon and below reorder level. Staff can open them at the start of the day. The order to the supplier goes out from the same screen, not from a paper pad.
Physical counts
A vial taken in a hurry and not recorded puts the figure out. A periodic count of the fridge corrects it. The count then acts as a check on the register.
Frequently asked questions
Does the veterinary inventory system warn us before something expires?
Yes, as a list of items due to expire. Staff read it alongside the low-stock list, and how often is the clinic’s call.
Can we order from the same screen?
Yes. The order to the supplier is raised from the shortage itself, so the list is not copied onto paper.
Do medicines come off stock when we bill them?
Yes. Stock issued on a visit reduces the shelf figure, so the register and the billing stay close to each other.
Can we track batch numbers on every vial?
Expiry is tracked per item as it is received. Strict batch-by-batch tracing is not standard, so raise it before go-live because it changes the receiving screen.
