What Went Out, and What Came Back

Two hundred chairs left on Friday. One hundred and eighty came back, and nobody noticed until the next function was short.

Your stock is quietly your margin

Hiring chairs at short notice on a December Saturday costs whatever the market says it costs. Most planners find out they are short on the morning, because the count going out was never set against the count coming back.

What an issue record holds

Items and quantity out

Two hundred chairs, ten sofas, four carpets, against the event and the date they left.

The vehicle and the person

Who took it and how it went. Loading happens in a hurry, which is why the record is made before the tempo leaves.

Returned, and counted

What came back, on which date. A shortfall is a number on the day rather than a discovery three weekends later.

Damage noted at return

A torn carpet or a broken chair frame is written down by the person unloading it. Afterwards, nobody can claim it left that way.

What it saves you

None of this is complicated. It is simply never done.

  • Equipment issued to an event, and what came back short or damaged
  • What is available before a second function is confirmed
  • Items out on a date, so a clash shows up in advance
  • A season’s losses, item by item
  • What your own stock carried on an event, for its settlement
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does it need barcodes or tags?

No. Chairs are counted, not scanned. A count going out and a count coming back is all this asks for, and anything heavier will not survive a loading bay before sunrise.

What about things we hire in?

Hired items are handled as a vendor booking at an agreed amount, because that is what they are. Your own equipment stock is what this screen counts.

Can it tell us when to buy more chairs?

Not by itself. It shows how often you ran short and what you paid to hire in. Buying two hundred more chairs is still a decision you take with your own money.
