A value climbing quickly inside its range is often worth knowing about before it leaves the range. Rate of change can raise its own alert.
Changed by a named person
Widening a limit is a recorded act with a name and a time against it. That matters when somebody quietly makes an inconvenient alarm go away.

Limits and durations are agreed with your supervisors, then tuned during a parallel run so the real events fire and the noise does not.

Who decides the limits?

Can a threshold differ by shift?
Yes, and it often should. A cold room loaded at six in the morning behaves differently from the same room at midnight, and the duration can reflect that rather than crying wolf every dawn.

Yes, because they run on the gateway at the site. The hooter still sounds and an interlock still fires. Readings are held locally and fill back into the history once the link returns.
