Equipment Issue and Return for Shoots
Camera bodies, lenses, lights, gimbals and batteries are issued to a shoot and checked back in. Missing or damaged items are noted by the person who returned them.
Issued to a shoot
Equipment goes out against a specific shoot, and the crew lead who signs for it is the crew lead who brings it back. Issue takes a minute at the cupboard. Every item has a last known holder.
What the record holds
What the lists show
- What is out and what is in the cupboard, before a shoot is confirmed
- Items missing over a season
- Damage reported, and who returned the item
- Equipment on a shoot, beside the crew who took it
Frequently asked questions
Are tags or barcodes needed?
No. Equipment is picked from a list as it is issued. Scanning suits a large inventory, and studios with one usually have a system of their own.
Can the crew lead record this at the cupboard?
Yes, from a phone. The entry is made where the handover happens and is not typed up in the office afterwards, when a late shoot has already pushed it aside.
Does it track servicing and warranty?
No. It records what went out, what came back and what was damaged. Service history stays wherever the studio keeps it today.
