Campaign Tasks and Briefs for Marketing Agencies

A calendar item becomes a task with a brief behind it. The designer, writer or media buyer who owns it works from that brief and moves it along a stage.

The brief

What to make

Format, size, length, the channel it runs on and the deliverable type it counts against in the retainer scope.

Reference and copy

The hook, the caption, product details and links to reference creatives. Brand assets are linked so a designer has them on hand.

Owner and due date

One person is accountable. The internal date sits ahead of the client publish date shown on the calendar.

Stage

Brief ready, in progress, internal review, sent to client, in revision, approved, scheduled. Stages are named the way your team speaks.

Through the week

A designer opens a board of their own tasks sorted by due date. Work is uploaded or linked, and the task goes to internal review before anything reaches the client. Hours go on the task. An account manager can see where every item for a brand has reached without calling a standup.

Paid media tasks

Ad tasks sit on the same board as creative ones. A task might be to build three ad sets, refresh a tired creative or pull last week’s numbers for a brand that watches its cost per lead closely. The ad account is named on the task.

What tasks do not cover

Files are made in your own design and editing tools, and the task holds the link. No task is created by the software on its own. Whether a missed internal date is escalated, and to whom, is your agency’s own working rule.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a task be split between two people?

Yes. A reel can have a writer, an editor and a reviewer, with one of them held as owner for the due date.

Do freelancers get their own task board?

Yes. A freelance editor sees only the tasks given to them. Other clients and all billing stay hidden.

Is the brief a fixed form?

The fields are set up for your agency. A reel brief and a blog brief ask for different things, and both are catered for.

Can tasks repeat every month?

Yes. Standing items such as a monthly report or a weekly ad review recur, and each still names who owns it and when it is due.
