Making Charge, Wastage and GST on One Bill
A jewellery bill is six calculations pretending to be one number. Metal, making, wastage, stones, hallmarking, tax. Do them by hand at a wedding-season counter and one of them will be wrong before lunch.
Saturday, muhurtham, four people at the counter
The queue is out to the door. A salesman is working out a chain on a calculator while another customer waits with three bangles and a question about wastage. Somewhere in that hour a making charge is quoted as it was last month, and nobody notices until the accounts are read in June.
What the bill works out
Metal value from the tag
Net weight times the rate for that purity, entered once that morning. The salesperson reads the tag and the figure appears.
Making, the way you quote it
A rate per gram, a flat amount per piece, or a share of metal value. Your own rule sits on the piece.
Wastage and stone value
Wastage follows your rule for that design. Stones are valued separately, so metal and stone never get muddled in one figure.
Hallmarking charge and GST
Both added after, and both printed. The customer can see what is tax and what is yours.
Paid in more than one way
Cash, UPI, card or a part payment against an order. An old-gold exchange comes off the same bill.
What the counter cannot change
Who may edit a weight, who may give a discount and who may cancel a bill are decided by you at set-up. Every one of those actions is logged with a name and a time.

Frequently asked questions
Can two salespeople quote different making charges?
Only if you allow it. The making rate comes from the tag, and the right to change it on a bill is a permission you hand out rather than a habit anyone picks up.
Does the bill print in our own format?
Yes. Your layout, your GST details and what you want shown, including the HUID, are set up before the first bill goes out.
Can we bill from a phone?
You can read stock, approvals and the day’s sales on a phone. Billing works best on the counter machine, because that is where the scale and the tag printer are plugged in.
