HUID Kept Against the Tag It Belongs To
A batch of rings goes to the centre on Tuesday and comes back on Friday with numbers marked on them. Between those two days the rings are still your stock, and after them each number has to sit against the right tag.
Half the showcase is somewhere else
Three rings are at the hallmarking centre. The counter does not know, so a customer is shown a tray with gaps in it and given no explanation. At the night count those pieces are simply missing, and somebody spends twenty minutes remembering where they went.
What is recorded
The batch that went out
Which tags, on what date, to which centre. The pieces leave the showcase against a record rather than a memory.
Charges on the batch
What the centre billed, kept against the pieces it applies to, so the cost of marking is not lost in general expenses.
The HUID that comes back
Entered against each tag when the piece returns. The number on the jewellery and the number on the record are the same.
Still your stock while away
A piece at the centre is counted in your stock value and marked as away. The night count does not go looking for it.
On the bill where you want it
The HUID can be printed on the customer’s bill. What appears on your bill layout is decided with you at set-up.
What this is not
Purity is not tested here and no HUID is issued here. The assaying and hallmarking centre does that work under the rules that apply to it. This only keeps the record of what you sent and what came back, which is the part that goes missing in a showroom.

Frequently asked questions
Does this make our showroom hallmarking compliant?
No. Whatever the rules ask of your shop stays between you and the hallmarking centre. The software stores the HUID, the dates, the charges and which tag each number belongs to.
Can we search a piece by its HUID?
Yes. The number is on the tag record, so a piece can be found by it, along with its weights, purity and where it is at the moment.
What about old stock that has no HUID?
It sits in the book with the field empty, and you can list what is still unmarked. When a batch goes out, those tags are picked from that list.
