Paint Returns, Leakage and Unsold Tinted Packs
Not every tin sells. Leaking packs, dented buckets, old batches and tinted tins nobody collected are held on one list until each is settled or sold off.
What lands on this list
Tinted packs that cannot go back
Once colourant has gone into a base pack, the company will not take that tin back. It is the shop money sitting on a shelf. The list is sorted by shade family, so when a buyer asks for something close, the counter can look before opening a fresh dispensing job. Such a pack can be offered at a reduced rate, used on the shop own board, or finally written off. Each of those is recorded with who approved it.
Settling each one
What the company decides
- Whether a breakage claim is allowed rests with the paint company.
- Shelf life for a product is the company figure, not ours.
- Accounting treatment of a write off is for your accountant or advisor.
- No tinted tin can be returned to the depot, whatever the record says.
Frequently asked questions
Can the counter search unsold tinted packs by shade?
Yes. The list groups them by shade family so a near match can be offered before a new tin is dispensed.
Who may approve a reduced rate on an old pack?
Whoever the owner names. The approval sits on the invoice, so the discount is not mistaken for a slab rate.
Are photographs kept with a breakage claim?
Yes, where your staff attach them at receiving. They stay with the claim until the credit note is matched.
Does a write off change the stock count?
Yes. The pack leaves stock on the date it is written off, with the reason against it.
