Shade Code History for Paint Customers

Colour is the one thing a buyer comes back for. This module keeps the shade, product and finish against each customer and every site they painted.

What is saved against a buyer

Shade and where it went

The code, the product, the finish and the room or elevation it was used on. A flat with three shades carries three lines under one site.

Site address

Houses, flats, shops and building sites are held as sites under the buyer. A contractor working six sites keeps six separate shade histories.

Quantity and date

How many packs of each size left the shop, and when. A later top-up is added to the same site rather than starting a fresh one. One address, one thread.

Sample matches

Where a colour came off a cloth, a tile or an old wall, the job is marked as a sample match. Repeating it is never certain.

How a repeat order is raised

A painter walks in asking for two more litres of the colour from last month. The counter pulls up the site, reads the saved code and base, and opens a dispensing job from it. Nothing is guessed at the fan deck. Where the earlier tin was a sample match, the counter says plainly that the second batch may sit slightly apart from the first. The buyer then decides whether to repaint the whole wall.

Who reads the history

Counter staff

Find the site, read the code and raise the repeat without calling the painter back for details he no longer remembers.

Painters and contractors

Ask for their own sites by name. The shop can send the shade list for a site by message if the contractor wants it on file.

The owner

Sees which shades and products move in the locality, and which buyers return for top-ups. Buying follows that.

What the record cannot promise

  • A repeat dispense can still differ slightly from the first tin.
  • Fading on a painted wall is not something a code can correct for.
  • Codes withdrawn by the company may no longer be dispensable.
  • Sample matches are recorded as matches, never as exact shades.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a contractor see the shades for his own sites?

Yes, where the shop chooses to send them. The list can go by message, and the record stays with the shop.

Does a top-up order start a new site?

No. It is added under the existing site, so the whole painting history of that address reads in one place.

How long is shade history kept?

For as long as you hold the customer record. Old sites stay readable even after the buyer has stopped coming.

Will the same code give the same colour years later?

Not always. Company formulas and colourant batches change, and the record notes the date so the counter can warn the buyer.
