Bus Location Feed Beside the School Trip
Where a tracking unit is fitted to a bus, its feed is shown beside the trip on the route screen. The device and SIM are bought and fitted separately by the school.
What the feed adds to a trip
The software records the trip, its stops and the boarding marks on its own. A tracking unit adds the position of the bus, and that position is shown beside the trip on the route screen. The transport in-charge then reads the trip and the location together. Buses without a unit keep the trip record and show no feed.
What the school arranges
Who reads it
The transport in-charge uses the feed when a trip has not started or a bus runs late, and can compare the position with the stop list in front of them. Principals and owners can open the same route screen. Drivers and attendants keep working from the stop list and the boarding marks. What each role sees on the route screen is agreed during implementation.
What the feed does not change
- It is not a tracking device
- Boarding is still marked by the attendant on the trip
- Not-boarded alerts still come from the attendant’s marks
- Device cost and SIM cost are a separate bill
- Buses without a unit show no feed
Frequently asked questions
Does the software include a GPS device?
No. The device and its SIM are bought and fitted separately. The software shows the feed only from a unit that is fitted and connected.
Can it work for buses without a unit?
Yes. Trips, stops, boarding and fees work without a unit. Those buses simply show no location feed on the route screen.
Which tracking devices can be connected?
That is confirmed with the school during scoping, before a unit is bought, so the device chosen is one that can be connected.
Does the feed replace boarding marks?
No. The feed shows where the bus is. Whether a child boarded is still recorded by the attendant on the trip.
