Ten Calls at Twenty to Eight, or One Message

The office rings the driver, who cannot pick up because he is driving. The mother is asked to give it five minutes. Ten more calls follow. A message sent from the trip record ends that morning before it starts.

What the office sends

Not boarded

To the parent of a child marked as not boarded, off the trip the attendant is running. It reaches her before the bus turns onto the main road.

Delays and route changes

A breakdown, a diversion, a bus running twenty minutes late. Sent once to the parents on that route instead of answered eleven times.

Fee reminders and receipts

The term’s pending amount, and the receipt after a payment, to the same numbers.

Kept on the record

Every message stays on the child’s record. When a parent says nobody told her, there is something to open.

By WhatsApp or SMS

Whichever your parents actually read. Both go to the numbers on the transport record rather than into a class group where a notice about route seven is buried under photographs. A parent who left last year is not still getting them, because the mapping is where the numbers live. New numbers arrive when the front office changes the record, not when somebody remembers to update a broadcast list.

Nothing to send if nobody marks

A not-boarded alert exists because an attendant marked a trip. On a bus where the phone stays in a bag, no message goes out and the office is back to guessing. That is the honest order of things, and it is why training on the bus comes before training in the office.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the parent hear automatically when a child does not board?

The alert comes off the attendant’s marking and goes to the parent’s number on the record. If nothing is marked on the bus, there is nothing to send.

Can we message only one route?

Yes. A delay notice goes to the parents on that route. A fee reminder goes to the families who owe, which is a different list again.

Can parents reply to these?

A parent who replies is a parent ringing your office, and that call is answered by a person. The messages are there to cut the calls down, not to replace them.
