Courses and Batches in a Coaching Centre

Courses are what the centre sells and batches are where the teaching happens. This module holds both, with the subjects, the strength limit and the dates for every batch.

Courses the centre sells

A course is the package a parent pays for, and it is set up once for the season.

Course definition

A name, the class or exam it serves, the subjects included and the months it runs. A two-year entrance course and a crash course sit side by side.

Fee heads

Tuition, study material and test series can be separate heads under one course. The office quotes from these heads at admission.

Batch pattern

How many sittings a week, how long each sitting runs, and whether the course is taught in the morning, the evening or at the weekend.

Batches under a course

Batch and subject

A batch is a group of students for one subject with one faculty member. A student in a science course usually sits in three or four batches.

Strength limit

Each batch carries a seat limit. The counsellor sees how many places are left before promising a slot to a parent.

Start and end dates

Batch dates follow the course calendar. A batch that has finished is closed, and its attendance and marks stay readable.

Faculty assigned

One faculty member is named for the batch, with a substitute where the centre keeps one. Teaching hours are counted from this.

Students allotted

Students are put into the batch from their admission. A transfer between batches carries the date of the move.

Where batches are read from

The timetable places batch sittings in the week. Attendance is marked batch by batch. Test marks and rank lists are worked out inside a batch, since comparing a crash batch with a two-year batch tells the owner nothing. Syllabus coverage is ticked per batch as well. Faculty hours add up from the batches a teacher holds.

What the client decides

  • Which courses and batch names the centre uses each season
  • The seat limit for every batch and who may go past it
  • Whether a batch is named by subject, faculty or timing
  • Who may create a batch, close one or move a student between two
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can one student sit in batches at different timings?

Yes. Each subject has its own batch, and the student record shows all of them with their slots.

What happens when a batch gets too big and is split?

The new batch is created and students are moved into it. Attendance and marks already recorded stay with the old batch.

Are batches reused next season?

They can be copied with their subjects and pattern, so the office does not build the season from nothing.

Does a crash course work the same way?

Yes. It is a course with short dates and its own batches, fee heads and test schedule.
