Software Solutions for Smartphone Sellers

Smartphones are high-value, change in price often and launch in waves. Each unit has an IMEI, a warranty and often a finance case or an exchange. Online sellers need variant stock, offer rules that start and stop on time, trade-in records and dispatch checks suited to a parcel of this value.

At a glance

Track each handset by IMEI and price it against the brand’s list and offers.

A smartphone listing is really a set of variants. A buyer picks storage and colour, and each combination is a stocked item priced separately and with a pre-order list of its own.

Launch week concentrates orders, offers and parcels into a few days, so errors in price or stock are expensive.

Businesses and operating models

Multi-brand retailers

A shop lists several brands, runs finance and exchange offers and ships to its town and beyond.

Brand-authorised online sellers

A seller buys from the brand or its distributor and lists handsets at the brand’s price with the brand’s warranty.

Distributors selling to shops

A distributor sells cartons and single units to retailers at dealer rates.

How an order moves

The workflow for smartphones.

  1. 1

    Launch and pre-order

A new model is listed with variants and a release date, and pre-orders are taken against expected stock.

  2. 2

    Offer applied at checkout

A brand or bank offer is attached with a start and end time. The order stores the offer and the price paid.

  3. 3

    Trade-in valued

An old phone is graded from a form and photographs, and the agreed value is deducted from the new price.

  4. 4

    IMEI reserved and checked

The handset’s IMEI is written to the order. The sealed box is checked and photographed at packing.

  5. 5

    Delivery and activation help

Delivery is confirmed by the carrier, and the buyer gets warranty details and set-up guidance.

Where it breaks

The challenges, and what they cost.

Prices change twice a day

A brand revises its list in the afternoon. Orders keep arriving at the morning’s amount.

Launch spikes

A few hundred pre-orders arrive for stock that may come in smaller quantities.

Trade-in disputes

The old phone arrives in a different condition from the one described, and the value is argued.

Parcels of high value go missing

A parcel with no packing photograph or delivery confirmation leaves nothing to rely on in a dispute.

Requirements to assess

What is specific to this trade.

These are requirements we would confirm in discovery. They describe what the solution may need to handle. They are not features that already exist.

  • IMEI recorded on each order
  • Offers with an end time and an order record
  • Trade-in grade and value stored with the order
  • Pre-orders allocated in sequence
Recommended modules

Chosen from the commerce capabilities this business needs, not a list of everything.

Offers with a start, an end and a limit, stored on every order.

Trade-in grading

Grade, photographs, agreed value and what happened to the old handset.

Pre-order list

Orders against expected stock, allocated in order when units arrive.

Checked dispatch

Users and permissions

Who works in the system, and what each can do.

Pricing lead

Loads lists and sets offers, and approves price revisions.

Counter and online sales

Answer buyers, take trade-ins and confirm orders.

Dispatch staff

Integrations

What it would connect to.

An integration is confirmed only after its API, access and scope are checked. A connection that updates on a schedule is described as scheduled, not real-time.

  • Distributor price and stock files
  • Finance providers, where a documented interface exists
  • Courier booking with delivery confirmation
  • The showroom stock record kept in the existing product

India and international

Selling at home and abroad.

Handset variants differ by market, in bands and software, and warranty may apply only where the unit was sold. Your adviser and the brand confirm what may be sold across borders.

Common questions

Questions about smartphones e-commerce.

Can offers start and stop by themselves?

Yes. Each has a launch time and an expiry time, and the price returns to normal afterwards.

Does it grade a traded-in phone?

No. A person grades it, and the grade and agreed value are recorded.

Can finance cases be tracked?

Where a financier offers a documented way to read a case’s status, yes. Otherwise cases are recorded by hand and checked against the financier’s reply.
