Price Lists, Offers and Discount Limits

Pricing control holds price lists, festival offers and discount limits by role. Salespeople can negotiate within a limit, and the owner can see what discounting cost by person, model and reason.

Discounts given on the floor

Furniture is sold by negotiation, so discounts are given. Without a record, two salespeople can quote different reductions on the same model, and nothing is written except on the bill. At quarter end the discount is spread through every invoice line, and the owner cannot see what it cost.

What a price is made of

List price

The marked price per model, size and finish gives everyone on the floor the same starting point. Nobody quotes from memory.

Cost and floor price

What the piece cost and the lowest acceptable price are visible only to those who should see them, which keeps margins away from the shop floor.

Variant pricing

A sofa in leather and the same sofa in fabric carry different prices under one model.

Display and seconds

A piece off the floor with a scratch is priced as what it is, with the reason recorded. Nothing is hidden.

Delivery and assembly

Charges are levied or absorbed per order, so the point is not argued at the door.

Who may discount, and how much

A limit per role

A salesperson, a floor manager and the owner each have a limit, set once and applied every time. Nobody rechecks it.

Approval above the limit

A larger discount needs a named approval on the order, because a nod across the showroom leaves no record.

Never below floor price

The system refuses a price below the floor. This is the one rule worth making absolute.

On the quotation

The discount appears on the quote from the start, so the customer is not quoted one number and billed another.

Recorded with a reason

Matching a competitor, clearing old stock and rewarding a repeat customer are all recorded as reasons, which is what makes the discount report worth reading.

Offers that run for a season

Festival pricing

A Diwali or Ugadi offer applies to a selected range for a fixed period and then ends by itself.

Combination offers

A dining table with six chairs is priced as a set, and nobody works it out on a calculator. The set price is fixed.

Clearance

Old stock is marked down, and the report shows what the markdown cost against what it released.

Per showroom

An offer can run in one branch and not in another, where the stock position differs.

What the owner sees

Discount as a share of revenue

One figure for the month shows what discounting cost the showroom against the revenue booked in the same period.

By salesperson

Who closes at list and who closes with a reduction, next to what each sold.

By model

Pieces that never sell without a discount point to a buying decision and not a selling one.

Margin after discount

It shows whether a busy month was profitable.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can we stop salespeople discounting below a certain price?

Yes. Each model carries a floor price, and the system will not accept an order below it. Discounts above the role’s limit, but not below the floor, need a recorded approval from someone with authority.

How are festival offers handled?

An offer is set against a range of models for a date range and applies automatically while it runs. It stops on its end date without anyone reversing prices.

Can different showrooms have different prices?

Yes. Price lists and offers can be set per showroom, which matters when one branch is clearing stock that the other still sells at list.

Does the discount appear on the quotation?

Yes. The quote shows list price, discount and net. The customer sees the same figures on the quote, the order and the final invoice.

What reporting is there on discounting?

Discount as a share of revenue for the period, broken down by salesperson, model and reason, with margin after discount alongside.
