A Job With Somebody’s Name On It

Anyone with a login raises a job. Ward, location, category and how urgent it is. From there it belongs to a person or a team, and it cannot sit in the system with no owner.

Forty people saw the message

At seven in the morning a nurse types that bed 14 needs cleaning. The ward group has forty members in it. The sister assumes a ward boy has gone. At eleven the bed is still not made, and a patient waiting downstairs is still waiting.

What raising a job takes

Four fields at the ward station

Ward or location, the kind of work, how urgent it is, and a line of description. About as long as typing the message would have taken.

It lands with a person

The job goes to the housekeeping supervisor on duty for that floor, or to the engineer who owns that kind of complaint. Groups do not own work.

Accepted, started, done

Each step is visible to the nurse who raised it. She stops ringing the extension to ask where it has reached.

Raised from a phone at the bedside

It runs in a browser, so nurses, supervisors and technicians open it on whatever handset they already carry.

Once the job is in

  • Response times by job type, with escalation when they are crossed
  • Jobs raised and closed by department, by day and by week
  • Open jobs at shift change, so the handover is a screen and not a conversation
  • Housekeeping, maintenance, biomedical and the store on one queue
  • A ward boy who sees his own jobs and nothing more
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a nurse raise a job from her phone?

Yes. There is nothing to install. She opens the page on the handset in her pocket, and her own ward is already the first thing on it.

What stops the same complaint being raised three times?

Open jobs for that ward and location are on screen when a new one is raised, so a tap already reported shows up. On a busy morning duplicates still happen, and the supervisor closes the second one with a note.

Does it decide which job matters most?

It orders work by urgency and by the response time you set for each job type. Clinical priority is a different thing and stays with your doctors. This does not triage patients and should never be asked to.

Is this a hospital management system?

No. It holds jobs, machines and stock, and no patient records at all. For OPD, IPD, pharmacy, lab and billing, look at our Hospital/Clinic Management System. The two run side by side.
