Software Solutions for Interior Paint Sellers

Most interior paint is mixed after the order, from a shade code, a base and a pack size. A tinted tin cannot go back on the shelf. Online sellers need shade history, a litre estimate from wall area, tinting jobs at the counter or depot, and clear terms for tinted packs.

At a glance

Sell tinted interior paint by shade code, finish and wall area.

An interior paint order has a colour that does not exist until a machine mixes it. The shade code, the base and the pack size together define the tin, and a tinted tin has no second buyer.

Buyers are homeowners repainting one room, painters buying for several flats and builders ordering by the floor.

Businesses and operating models

Dealers tinting at the counter

The dealer holds bases and colourants, mixes each tin after the order and hands over or dispatches it the same day.

Depot and distributor sellers

The seller supplies dealers with factory-mixed ranges and bases that the dealers tint locally.

Online-first paint stores

A store sells mixed packs from a partner dealer or depot and ships them with a fixed lead time.

How an order moves

The workflow for interior paints.

  1. 1

    Picking the shade

A buyer enters a shade code or chooses from a colour chart. The record notes the product, finish and base that code needs.

  2. 2

    Working out the quantity

Wall area, doors, windows and coats give an estimate in litres. The estimate suggests pack sizes and lists primer and putty.

  3. 3

    Placing a tint-to-order job

The order creates a dispensing job holding the code, base pack and pack size. Nothing is mixed until payment or a confirmed advance.

  4. 4

    Tinting and quality check

The operator mixes the tin, tests a dab against the chart or sample and marks the job done, which moves stock out of bases and colourants.

  5. 5

    Delivery, reorder and leftovers

The tin ships or waits for pickup. Later, the saved shade code lets the buyer order a matching top-up.

Where it breaks

The challenges, and what they cost.

Colour on screen differs from the wall

A screen shade is not a wall shade. Buyers expect a match the software cannot promise, and a returned tin cannot be resold.

Tinted packs stranded

A cancelled order leaves a mixed tin on the shelf. Without a record it is forgotten and written off at year end.

Quantity under- or over-estimated

A guess at litres leaves a wall half done or a corner of tins unopened. A top-up from a later batch can show a slight difference.

Shade history in painters’ heads

Which shade went into which flat lives in a notebook. A repeat order starts with a call and a guess.

Requirements to assess

What is specific to this trade.

These are requirements we would confirm in discovery. They describe what the solution may need to handle. They are not features that already exist.

  • Shade code, base and finish held as fields on every colour line
  • An estimator that gives litres by area and coats, and a way to note the assumptions used
  • Tint-to-order jobs created from the online order, with stock reducing as each tin is mixed
  • Clear terms for tinted packs and leftover mixed tins, and shade history by customer and site
Recommended modules

What we would build for interior paints.

Chosen from the commerce capabilities this business needs, not a list of everything.

Shade code and history

Keeps the shade, product, finish and base against the customer and site, so a repeat order is matched, not guessed.

Litre estimator

Turns wall area, number of coats and product into litres and pack suggestions, saved with the enquiry.

Tint-to-order jobs

Creates a dispensing job per tin and reduces base and colourant stock only when it is marked done.

Tinted-pack terms

Shows the seller’s policy for mixed packs at checkout and records that the buyer accepted it.

Sundries bundle

Offers primer, putty, masking tape and brushes alongside the estimate.

Users and permissions

Who works in the system, and what each can do.

Counter and tinting operator

Receives dispensing jobs, mixes tins and marks them done.

Customer service

Answers shade and quantity questions and handles complaints about a tin.

Painter or contractor

Reorders a saved shade for a site and sees the rate slab agreed with the dealer.

Integrations

What it would connect to.

An integration is confirmed only after its API, access and scope are checked. A connection that updates on a schedule is described as scheduled, not real-time.

  • The existing paint-dealer product for shade stock, tinting jobs and counter billing
  • A card and UPI gateway for retail orders, with advances for large shade jobs
  • A local delivery rider or transport service for tins to site
Implementation

How the work runs, and what we need from you.

What you provide

  • Your shade chart, bases and the packs you stock
  • How the tinting machine and its operator work today
  • Your policy for tinted and leftover packs

Mirror the tinting job

We follow one tin from order to pack, so the online order can create the same job the counter creates today.

Draft the terms

The tinted-pack terms are written with you and shown before payment, then tested on sample orders.

Deliverables

What you receive.

  • Shade-code ordering and repeat reorder
  • Litre estimator with sundries list
  • Tinting job flow connected to stock
  • Tinted-pack terms at checkout
Measurement

How progress is judged.

Measures are agreed against your own baseline. We do not promise a result in advance.

  • Tinted packs left unsold at month end
  • Repeat orders placed from saved shade codes
India and international

Selling at home and abroad.

Colour names and chart systems vary between brands and markets, so a shade code from one range may not exist in another. Sellers shipping abroad should check carrier terms for liquid paint and confirm any limits with their adviser.

Suitable software

Interior Paint E-commerce & Tinting Order Software

Existing product, extended

The counter side already exists as GullySystem’s Paint Dealer Management Software, which holds stock by shade, base and pack, tinting jobs and shade history. The online order, the estimator and the checkout terms are configured on top of it.

Common questions

Questions about interior paints e-commerce.

Can the website show the exact colour that will end up on my wall?

No. Screens differ and light changes a shade. The site shows the chart code and a sample note, and the tin is mixed to that code.

Will the website drive the tinting machine?

No. The machine runs its own company software. The order creates a job with the code and base, and any link to that software is looked at first.

Can a customer reorder the same shade later?

Yes. The code, product and finish are saved against the customer and site, so a matching top-up can be placed in a few steps.
