Season Buying and Markdowns for Clothing Stores
Clothing is bought ahead of a season and sold inside it. Last season figures, held by style, size and colour, are what the buyer reads before placing the next order.
How a season is defined
What the buyer sees
Before the next buy, the buyer opens last season by category and reads which styles sold out early, which sizes ran short and which colours sat untouched. Sell-through is shown per size, not only per style, because a style that looks successful can still have left two sizes hanging. The buyer then drafts an order. Quantities can be edited line by line.
Marking down what has not moved
What stays with the owner
- What to buy next season, and from which wholesaler
- How deep a markdown goes on any style
- When a season sale opens and when it ends
- Whether leftover pieces move to another outlet instead
What this module does not do
- It does not forecast demand or predict a trend
- It does not set a price or a markdown by itself
- It does not read fashion data from outside your shop
Frequently asked questions
Does it tell us what to buy?
No. It shows what each style, size and colour did last season. The buying call stays with the owner.
Can a markdown apply to only some sizes?
Yes. A price change can cover a whole style, or only the sizes and colours still hanging on the rack.
What counts as dead stock?
The age you set. Days on the floor and days since the last sale are both shown for each style.
Do new tags have to be printed after a markdown?
Usually yes. The affected pieces list for reprinting, so the tag and the billing price agree.
