The Due Date List the Whole Office Works From
On the eighteenth somebody asks which GSTR-3B filings are still open. The answer should be a screen, not an hour with a spreadsheet and three phone calls.
Raised once, for the year
From the services each client has taken
A client on monthly GST and quarterly TDS gets those jobs for the whole year the day the service is recorded against him. Nobody types twelve rows.
On your own rules
Your firm sets the internal date it works to, which is usually ahead of the statutory one. That internal date is what the calendar shows.
Read four ways
By date, for the week, and by client before a partner rings him. By service, when the whole office is doing one return. By staff, when somebody is on leave.
Colour on the ones behind
Open jobs past their internal date stand out. So do jobs where the papers have still not come in.
What the article and the partner each see
One calendar, two readings.
- The article: what is on my desk this week, and what is stuck
- The manager: what is unallocated, and who is carrying too much
- The partner: what is still open with four days to go
- Anyone: the jobs waiting on a client rather than on us
The honest part
Nothing is filed from here
Returns are filed on the department portal, the way your office files them today. What this holds is the due date, the status, the acknowledgement and the papers behind it.
The rules are yours to set
Due dates come from the rules your firm enters, not from any government feed. When a date is extended, somebody updates it here, and the calendar moves with it.
Frequently asked questions
Does it know when a due date is extended?
Not on its own. A partner or the manager changes the date for that service, and every open job moves with it. No feed from any department is connected.
Can a client be on monthly GST and yearly income tax at once?
Yes. Each service carries its own frequency and its own due-date rule, so a single client can have twelve GST jobs and one audit job in the same year.
What about clients we take on mid-year?
Jobs are raised from the date the service starts, not from April. The calendar fills in for the remaining periods only.
Can we see one staff member’s whole month?
Yes, by person, with what is done and what is open. A manager reading it on Monday knows who is carrying too much before Wednesday.
