Restaurant and Room Service Posting for Hotels
The restaurant, bar and room service counters bill from the same system the rooms run on. A charge can go to a room number rather than the cash drawer.
Taking an order
The counter screen is built for a waiter standing at a table, not for an accounts clerk. It works with taps.
Posting to a room
When the guest asks for it to go on the room, the waiter picks the room number and the in-house guest appears for confirmation. The amount lands on that folio the moment it is posted. A room that has already checked out cannot be charged, which is where most lost chits used to come from. Anyone who is not in-house pays at the counter.
What the counters report
Three reports answer most of what an owner asks about the restaurant at the close of a day, and all three read from the bills the counters raised.
What the hotel decides
- Which counters may post a charge to a room
- Whether a room posting needs a guest signature on paper
- How menus, dish groups and amounts are arranged
- Who may cancel an item after it reaches the kitchen
- Whether plan meals are shown on the folio as included
Frequently asked questions
Can room service be charged to the room?
Yes. The waiter picks the room number, and the amount reaches the guest folio at once.
Is a checked-out room protected from new charges?
Yes. Only in-house rooms accept a posting, and a late charge needs an approved correction on the folio.
Do breakfast plan meals show on the bill?
They can. A plan meal is marked as included, so the guest sees it listed without a second charge. Nobody pays twice.
Can the bar be billed apart from the room?
Yes. A bar bill is settled at the counter or split onto the guest part of the folio.
