Snag Lists and Touch-Ups for Painting Contractors
At handover the client’s walk-through points are noted room by room, each with a photograph. Every item is given to a painter and closed before the final bill goes out.
What goes on a snag list
Before the final bill
The accounts desk can see how many snag items remain open on a site. Many contractors hold the final bill until the list is closed. The owner also decides whether a minor open point should block it. Contractors differ on this. Both approaches work.
Repeat visits after handover
A client may call a few weeks later about a patch that peeled or a stain from a leak. That visit can be logged against the same site, so the contractor sees the history of the wall before anyone goes out.
What the list does not decide
It does not judge whether a complaint is fair. Whether seepage from the neighbour’s bathroom is the painter’s responsibility or not is settled with the client. A defect period, if you offer one, is set by you.
Frequently asked questions
Can the client add points from their own phone?
Points are entered by your supervisor or office. A client form over WhatsApp is possible and would be scoped during set-up.
Can I see which painter has the most touch-ups?
Yes. Items are assigned by name, so the owner can read how often each painter or crew is called back.
Does a touch-up cost the client anything?
That depends on your terms. A touch-up on your own work is normally free, and extra work is added to the bill as a variation.
Can snag items be kept after the site closes?
Yes. The list stays on the site record, so a later complaint can be read against what was agreed at handover.
