Plumber Attendance and Wages for Plumbing Contractors

Plumbers, helpers and gang leaders are recorded against the calls and sites they worked on. Daily wages, piece-rate pay and advances are worked out from that record at the month’s end.

Who works for the firm

A plumbing firm carries a mix of people. Some are on a fixed wage and some are paid by the job.

Plumbers and helpers

Each person has a record with a phone number, a skill grade and how they are paid. Helpers are usually attached to a plumber.

Gangs and subcontractors

A gang leader who brings his own men for a block of flats is entered as a team, with the rate agreed for the work.

Attendance by site

Attendance is marked against the site or the call where the person worked. A day split between two sites is shown as two entries.

Advances and deductions

Money given in advance, or recovered for broken tools, is entered with its date and cleared against later pay.

Working out what is payable

Daily-wage staff are paid from days present at the agreed rate. Piece-rate work is paid from the measured quantity, such as points fitted or metres laid, and overtime follows whatever rule the firm uses. At month end, one statement per person lists days, work, advances taken and the balance. Disputes are settled from entries. Memory is not needed.

Wages against jobs

Because attendance names a site, labour cost for each job is known. This sits beside material cost, so the owner reads the real cost of a bathroom block. A job that looked profitable on the quotation may turn out otherwise.

What the client decides

  • The pay basis for each person: daily, monthly or by the piece
  • Overtime and holiday rules, if the firm has them
  • How advances are recovered across months
  • Whether provident fund or ESI applies, which is for the firm’s advisor to confirm
  • Whether payment is by cash, UPI or bank transfer
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can plumbers mark their own attendance?

Yes, from a phone, if the owner wants that. Many firms let the supervisor mark it instead, and the setting is chosen with the firm.

Does it handle piece-rate work?

Yes. Pay is calculated on the measured work, such as fitting points or metres of pipe, at the rate agreed with the plumber or the gang.

Does the software run payroll and statutory filings?

No. It prepares wage statements from attendance and work done. Statutory deductions and returns belong to the firm’s accountant.

Can a plumber see his own wage statement?

Yes, where the owner permits it. A plumber sees his own days, work and advances, and nobody else’s.
