Site Jobs and Work Orders for Plumbing Contractors

A site job covers a whole building or a block of flats. It holds the stages of plumbing work, the plumbers on site and the material issued, from the first pipe to the final fitting.

From accepted quotation to site job

When a client accepts a quotation, the job opens with its lines and quantities. The work order that goes to the site is made from it.

Stages of work

A plumbing job usually moves from drainage and soil lines to water supply lines, then to fixing fittings and sanitaryware. The firm names its own stages.

Units and floors

A job can be split by block, floor or flat. The supervisor sees which flat is at which stage.

Plumbers on the job

Plumbers and helpers are assigned to the job, so attendance and wages tie back to the site they worked on.

Material allowed

Quoted quantities act as the reference for what the store issues. A job that draws far more pipe than it quoted is easy to spot.

Progress during the job

The supervisor updates each stage from the site. Work done flows into the measurement sheet, which later drives the running bill. Delays are noted with the reason, such as waiting for the civil team, a change by the architect or a fitting that has not arrived. Every site shows together. The office knows which job needs a visit.

Changes and extra work

Clients ask for another bathroom point or a moved line. Each change is recorded as extra work with its own quantity and rate. It reaches the bill only after the client’s approval is noted, which avoids a later argument.

What this page does not do

This is the plumbing contractor’s own job record. It does not plan the builder’s whole project. Nor does it draw pipe layouts. For overall project scheduling across all trades, a builder uses a project management product.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can one job cover several flats?

Yes. The job can be split into blocks, floors or flats, each with its own progress and its own measurements.

Can the supervisor work from the site?

Yes. Stage updates, photographs and measurements are entered from a phone, so the office does not wait for a paper sheet.

What if the builder changes the plan midway?

The change is recorded as extra or reduced work, with the client’s approval noted. The original quotation lines remain unchanged.

Does a job show profit or loss?

It shows billing against material and wages recorded for that job. How overheads and the owner’s time are counted is the firm’s choice.
