Ponding Test and Handover Records for Waterproofing

Once the layers are cured, water is held on the treated area and watched for a set period. The times, the result and the client’s signature are recorded, and the warranty register opens at handover.

Recording the test

The ponding test is where the client sees the work hold water. It is entered area by area, because a terrace may pass while a bathroom needs another look before anyone signs.

Start and end

The supervisor notes when water was filled and when the area was inspected, and the gap between the two is worked out from those times. No stopwatch is needed.

Water level and result

The level at the start and at the end, and whether the ceiling below shows any dampness. The result is recorded as passed, or as needing rework.

Photographs

Photographs of the ponded area and of the ceiling below are attached to the same entry.

A failed test

A failed area goes back into the job as rework. The cause and the repair are logged, and the test is entered again.

Handover to the client

When every area has passed, the client signs the handover on the supervisor’s phone or on a printed sheet. The signature, the date and the systems applied are stored with the job. The warranty is later read against that record.

From handover to the next step

A signed handover opens the warranty register for each treated area. It also releases the final bill, if the quotation ties payment to handover. Nothing is retyped. Both steps read the same record.

What the client decides

  • How long water is held for each kind of area
  • What counts as a pass for the firm
  • Whether the client signs on a phone or on paper
  • Whether a photograph is compulsory before handover
  • Who may mark an area as handed over
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the system decide the length of the test?

No. The test period is set by the firm for each kind of area, and the system records the times against it.

Can a client sign without a smartphone?

Yes. A printed handover sheet can be signed, and the office attaches the scan to the job.

What if the client is away during the test?

The test is still recorded with photographs. Whether the handover waits for the client’s signature is the firm’s decision.

Can a pass be recorded for part of the area?

Yes. Areas can be split, so a section that passed is handed over while another goes back for rework.
