What the supervisor records

The form follows the way a waterproofing inspection is done. Each area of the site is a separate entry, because a terrace, a bathroom and a sump are treated differently.

Measurements

Length and breadth of the slab, parapet height, number of outlets and any area that needs skirting. The square feet are worked out from these.

Surface and slope

The condition of the slab, whether the slope reaches the outlets and whether water stands anywhere after rain.

Cracks and damp patches

Where cracks run, where dampness shows on the ceiling below and where the plaster has blistered. Each is marked against the area.

Earlier treatment

Whether the surface has been coated before, with what and by whom. Old layers may need to be removed first.

Photographs

Photographs are attached to the area they show. The estimator can open them while pricing.

Why it sits before the quotation

Quantity of material depends on area, condition and the number of coats. When these are written down on site, the price does not rest on memory or on a rough guess made in the office a week later. A second visit is rarely needed.

Handing over to the estimator

A finished inspection moves to the estimator with its photographs. The estimator chooses the treatment system for each area. That choice is recorded on the quotation, which is the next step.

What the record does not decide

The inspection records what was seen. It does not diagnose the cause of a leak on its own. The supervisor’s judgment, and sometimes a flood test or a look at the floor above, decides the treatment before the client approves the scope.

Can the inspection be filled in on a phone?

Yes. Supervisors enter measurements and attach photographs from the site. The office sees the record as soon as it is saved.

Does it work without a mobile network at the site?

Connectivity at a basement or an upper floor can be poor. How entries are held until the phone reconnects is confirmed during scoping.

Can a moisture meter reading be stored?

Yes. A reading can be typed against the area. A direct link to a meter is not assumed and is confirmed during scoping if the firm uses one.

Can one site have many areas?

Yes. A villa may have a terrace, two bathrooms and a sump, each recorded and later quoted as its own area.
