Dental Treatment Plans and Estimates for Patients
A treatment plan lists the procedures a patient needs, tooth by tooth, with an estimate from the clinic’s fee list. The plan shows what the patient accepted, what is done and what is pending.
From findings to an estimate
What the plan shows at each visit
At every visit the chair side shows the lines accepted, the lines done and the lines left. The desk sees the same plan with the amount billed and the balance. A patient who returns after several months finds the plan where it was left.
How it connects to billing
Completing a line on the plan raises the charge for that procedure. Part payments are taken against the plan, so the clinic can see what the patient has paid against the full estimate at any visit.
What the clinic decides
The fee for each procedure, any discount and the wording on the printed estimate are the clinic’s to set. A revised estimate keeps the earlier one. Both stay on record. The system prices from the fee list and does not suggest a treatment.
Frequently asked questions
Can the patient get a printed estimate?
Yes. It prints with the clinic’s name. Wording and layout are set with the clinic.
What if the dentist changes the plan midway?
A line can be added, changed or removed. The earlier version of the plan stays on record, so the change can be traced.
Can a plan carry a discount?
Yes, where the clinic allows it. Who may give a discount and up to what limit is a rule the owner sets.
Does the plan expire?
Only if the clinic sets it that way. Many clinics leave pending lines open so a patient can return to them later.
