Software Solutions for Smart Sensor Sellers

Door, motion, water and temperature sensors are low in value and sold in numbers. Each speaks to a particular hub or radio type, runs on a particular battery and is often added later to a system the buyer already owns. Sellers need compatibility fields, pack handling and battery spares.

At a glance

Sell small sensors in multiples, each tied to the hub that reads it.

A buyer adding a motion sensor to a system they own has one question: will it join my hub? The answer decides the sale.

Businesses and operating models

Sensor brands

A brand sells door, motion and leak sensors beside its own hub, in packs of two, four or ten.

Add-on sellers

A seller supplies sensors that work with popular third-party hubs, and the catalogue is organised by the hub.

Suppliers to installers

An installer orders sensors by the carton for several client homes and wants them kept apart by job.

How an order moves

The workflow for sensors.

  1. 1

    Hub selected first

The buyer chooses the hub or system they own, and only sensors that join it are listed.

  2. 2

    Sensor type and pack picked

Door, motion, water leak or temperature sensors are chosen, along with the pack size.

  3. 3

    Batteries added

The battery type for each sensor is shown, and spares can be added to the basket.

  4. 4

    Picking from small bins

Small, similar-looking items are picked by scan, so a door sensor is not shipped as a motion sensor.

  5. 5

    Replacement of a dead sensor

A sensor that will not pair is replaced against its serial, with the fault reason noted.

Where it breaks

The challenges, and what they cost.

Sensors look alike

Several types share a box size and a colour. A picking slip is the only difference, and mistakes slip through.

Hub compatibility is narrow

A sensor built for one radio type will not join another hub, however similar the two look in a listing.

Batteries are overlooked

Buyers do not notice that a sensor takes an unusual cell. The first replacement leads to a support call.

Installer orders mix jobs

An installer orders for three homes in one go and then cannot tell which carton belongs to which.

Requirements to assess

What is specific to this trade.

These are requirements we would confirm in discovery. They describe what the solution may need to handle. They are not features that already exist.

  • Hub and radio compatibility held per sensor
  • Scan confirmation at picking for items that look alike
  • Battery type recorded and offered at checkout
Recommended modules

What we would build for sensors.

Chosen from the commerce capabilities this business needs, not a list of everything.

Hub-first catalogue

Products filtered by the hub or radio type the buyer already uses.

Scan-to-pick

Picking confirmed by scanning each item, so similar-looking sensors are not mixed.

Battery and spares link

Each sensor linked to its battery type and offered with spare cells.

Job-tagged orders

An installer marks each line with a job so cartons are labelled for each site.

Pairing-fault returns

A short checklist for a sensor that will not pair, before a replacement is sent.

Users and permissions

Who works in the system, and what each can do.

Catalogue editor

Maintains compatibility and battery details as new sensors arrive.

Picker

Scans each sensor into the order and flags mismatches.

Installer buyer

Orders in bulk and tags lines with client jobs.

Integrations

What it would connect to.

An integration is confirmed only after its API, access and scope are checked. A connection that updates on a schedule is described as scheduled, not real-time.

  • Barcode scanning at the warehouse, through handheld readers or a phone camera
  • A bricks-and-mortar shop’s stock count, refreshed at agreed intervals
  • A courier for light cartons, once its rate card and interface are checked
Implementation

How the work runs, and what we need from you.

What you provide

  • A sensor list with the hubs and radio types each joins
  • The barcodes already printed on your stock
  • How installers currently split an order across jobs

Start from the hub list

The hubs your buyers own define the first filter, so that comes before any product page.

Trial scan-to-pick on one shelf

One shelf of look-alike sensors is moved to scan picking to see how many errors disappear.

Deliverables

What you receive.

  • A hub-first catalogue
  • Scan-to-pick at the warehouse
  • Job-tagged trade orders
Measurement

How progress is judged.

Measures are agreed against your own baseline. We do not promise a result in advance.

  • Sensors shipped that did not match the order
  • Returns citing a hub that would not pair
India and international

Selling at home and abroad.

Sensors sold abroad may use a different radio frequency or battery, and approvals for radio equipment differ by country. The catalogue shows a region’s variant and hides others.

Suitable software

Smart Home & Security E-commerce Platform and Installation Software

Configured implementation

Storefront, installation booking and plan renewals sit on whichever platform discovery selects, and each is configured for the seller. No existing GullySystem product covers the whole sale, so each flow is set up for the individual seller.

Compatibility fields and trade ordering are covered by the category solution; scan-to-pick is a warehouse setting within it.

Common questions

Questions about sensors e-commerce.

Can I sell sensors that work with other brands’ hubs?

Yes, if the compatibility data is accurate. The catalogue is organised by the hub, and it is your responsibility to keep the list current.

Do smoke or gas detectors need special handling?

The catalogue can show any approval details the maker supplies. Which approvals a product needs before sale is a question for your own adviser.

Can installers order for several homes at once?

Yes. Each line carries a job tag, and the packing list groups items by job.
