Campuses, Programmes, Regulations and Sections

Institution setup holds campuses, departments, programmes, academic years, regulations, courses and sections. Other modules read from it, and more than one regulation can run at the same time.

Several regulations at once

One batch may be admitted under one regulation and the next batch under another. Credit patterns, the internal and external split and attendance rules can differ between them. The setup keeps each regulation separate. Every student is assigned to the regulation of admission.

What the setup holds

Campuses

More than one location under the same management can be held, each with its own departments and sanctioned intake.

Departments and programmes

Civil, mechanical, computer science and other departments are stored with the degree, the duration and the sanctioned intake against each programme.

Academic years and semesters

Odd and even semesters carry start and end dates. Deadlines in other modules count from these.

Regulations

Credit pattern, internal and external split, attendance rule, arrear rules and grading scale are stored here, one set for each regulation in use.

Courses

Core, elective, laboratory and project courses carry credits and the semester they belong to.

Sections

Divisions within a programme year. The timetable and the attendance register run on sections.

Why more than one regulation matters

Batches in parallel

An institution with students in different years usually has more than one regulation in use, and each one must stay correct while the others run beside it.

Assessed under their own rules

A student is graded under the regulation of admission and not the one now in force.

Transition years

A college adopting a new scheme can run both in parallel until the older batches finish. No overnight switch is needed.

Lateral entry

A diploma holder joining in the third semester carries a different credit requirement, which is recorded and not adjusted by hand.

Set once, used everywhere

  • Registration draws course offerings from the programme and regulation
  • Attendance uses the shortage limit stored in the regulation
  • Results follow the grading and pass rule of the student’s regulation
  • Returns read intake, programmes and departments from this setup
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can we run more than one regulation at the same time?

Yes. Students admitted in different years can carry different credit patterns, internal splits and attendance rules. Each is assessed under the regulation of admission.

What happens when the university revises the regulation?

A new regulation is added beside the existing ones and applied to the batch admitted under it. Earlier batches continue unchanged.

Can one installation handle more than one campus?

Yes. Each campus keeps its own departments, intake and sections, and reports run per campus or across all. A group with an engineering and a management college can hold both.

How are electives set up?

Electives are courses attached to a programme and semester with credits and any prerequisite. Registration limits choice by regulation and completed credits.

Do sections have to match the timetable?

Yes, the timetable is built on sections, so they are defined first. A section can be split into laboratory batches without creating a second section.
