Buckets, Ageing and the Weekly Follow-Up
Overdue should not be a month-end discovery. Accounts move into 1 to 30, 31 to 60, 61 to 90 and 90 plus days as the dates pass, and the borrower list behind any figure opens in one click.
Why the bucket matters more than the total
A book with ₹6 lakh overdue is two very different businesses depending on where that money sits. Spread thinly across last month, it is ordinary. Sitting past ninety days in eleven accounts, it is a recovery problem you already have. The buckets separate the two before anyone argues about it.
What the weekly review looks at
Demand against collection
What was due this week, what came in, by collector and by branch. The gap is the meeting.
Accounts that slipped a bucket
Loans that crossed into a worse bucket since the last review come up first, so the discussion starts with new trouble instead of the familiar names everyone already argues about.
Promises and what became of them
A promise to pay is noted with the date it was given for. Next week you can see which promises held, which is a fairer way to judge follow-up work than counting visits.
Accounts nobody owns
Each overdue account can be assigned to a person for the visit. Unassigned ones make their own short list, and that list should be empty by Monday evening.
On the loan itself
- Every receipt, short payment and missed instalment in date order
- Visit notes, promises to pay and the outcome of each one
- An SMS or email reminder before a visit is wasted on a date the borrower forgot
- SHG-wise outstanding, with member repayment history underneath
- Ageing across the whole book, by product, branch and officer
Frequently asked questions
Can we set our own overdue buckets?
Yes. The 1 to 30, 31 to 60, 61 to 90 and 90 plus split is the common one, and yours is configured to whatever your review already uses. Weekly lenders often want a tighter first bucket.
Does it chase the borrower on its own?
Only as far as a reminder goes. An SMS or email can go out on the due date and again when the account slips, but the visit, the call and the conversation are still your team’s work. Software does not talk anybody into paying.
We know our defaulters already. What does a loan tracking system add?
You know the worst twenty. The ageing shows the accounts drifting quietly behind them, and it shows them by collector, which is often the more useful pattern. Late visits recover less than early ones.
