Packing Lists and Carton Labels for Movers
On packing day each carton and crate gets a number against the move. What went inside is written down, so the same list can be tallied at the delivery end.
How a carton is recorded
Labels on the cartons
A label carries the move number, the carton number, the room and the fragile mark. Where a label printer is attached at the packing end, the crew prints as they seal. Without a printer, the numbers are written on the carton by hand and entered on the phone. A barcode can be put on the label so the delivery tally is scanned instead of read out.
Where the list is used again
What the packing list leaves to you
- How much detail goes inside each carton line is your crew habit
- Label size, stock and the printer model are settled while scoping
- Barcode scanning needs a reader at the delivery end as well
- The signature at delivery is taken on the tally, not on the packing list
Frequently asked questions
Can carton numbers be entered on a phone?
Yes. The packing crew enters them as cartons are sealed, and the office watches the count rise through the day without ringing the supervisor for it.
Do we need a label printer?
No. Handwritten numbers work as long as they are entered against the move, and a printer only saves the writing.
What about items that are not packed at all?
Loose articles such as beds and cycles are listed with their own count, and they are tallied at delivery too.
Can a customer see the carton list?
Yes. The list can be sent after packing, and the family can mark which cartons they want opened first.
