Client Approvals and Sign-Offs for Architects
A stage closes when the client accepts a drawing. The options shown, the comments made and the sheet finally approved are kept against the project in date order.
What an approval record holds
How approval moves a project
A project architect sends the option set and marks it as awaiting approval, and the drawing stays in that state until a reply is recorded against it. The approved sheet becomes the base for the next stage. Comments that arrive late turn into drawing revisions with the client named as the cause. Nothing is assumed.
Who reads approvals
What the client decides
- Whether approval given on site is accepted or only written approval
- Who on the client side may approve a drawing
- How long a drawing may wait before the studio follows up
- Whether approval is taken at every stage or only some
Frequently asked questions
Is written approval compulsory?
That is for your practice to fix. Some studios accept a reply on WhatsApp, while others want a signed print.
Can an approval be withdrawn?
Yes. The record shows the withdrawal with its date, and the revision raised afterwards is linked to it.
Does the client log in to approve?
Only if you want a client view. Whether it is built is settled during scoping, with a price of its own.
What if the client approves an older revision?
The revision approved is recorded as it stands, and the gap against the revision in force shows on the register.
